K M Mani was born as the son of Thomas Mani and Aleyamma Mani in 1933 at Marangattupilly, near Palai in Kottayam district of Kerala. He is married to Kuttiyamma and has a son, five daughters.

Political Career

Participated in the Freedom Struggle while a student. After enrolment as Advocate, started legal profession at Calicut Bar for a short while and set up practice at Palai and District Court Kottayam.

K M Mani practiced as a lawyer before entering into politics as an active member of Indian National Congress, was a member of KPCC & General Secretary Kottayam DCC; was founder member of Kerala Congress and General Secretary of the Party; became Chairman of the Kerala Congress.

K M Mani is the leader of Kerala Congress Party. He holds the records of having presented the maximum number of budgets (8) in the Kerala Legislative Assembly as Finance Minister, being a minister for the longest duration in the Government of Kerala.

Was a member, Kerala State Planning Board; Chairman, State Law Reforms Committee. Served as Minister for Finance (1975-1977); Home Affairs April 1977 to December 1977 and from September 1978 to October 1979, Finance and Law (January 1980 to October 1981, December 1981 to March 1982 and May 1982 to May 1986); Irrigation and Law (from May 1986 to March 1987); Revenue and Law (from June 1991 to May 1996, May 2001 to May 2006).

He was elected to Kerala Legislative Assembly for the first time in 1965 from the Palai Assembly Constituency. He has won all eleven election to the Kerala Legislative Assembly. He has been elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly last 43 years continuously without any brake in last 11 election in the same constituency "Palai".

Contributions

He has propounded the 'Toiling Class Theory', which is for the liberation and upliftment of lower middle class through progressive reforms and taxation policy. His 'Toiling Class Theory' negates 'class struggle' whereas it stands for 'class collaboration'.

Toiling Class Theory is an alternative to socialism and capitalism.
